I have always encouraged my personal training clients in Santa Monica to eat breakfast every morning! This is an essential part to living a healthy lifestyle! Our bodies are not meant to starve or go for a long period of time without eating after waking up. We need to take care of our body, you know that saying ‘a happy wife is a happy life” well so is your body, “good nutritious food is a better life!
As a general rule of thumb, I tell my clients to eat a nutritious large breakfast, a medium lunch, and a small dinner. I also tell them to eat snacks of fresh fruit in between the meals, in total eating 5-7 small meals a day. This is a great way to eat healthy with breakfast being the most important!
Every morning I eat 2 eggs w/yolk, 1-2 cups of oatmeal cooked from scratch, and a cup of coffee. My mourning routine for the past 15 years which around 25 to 30minutes goes like this… Roll out of bed, start coffee first, then start cooking the eggs, next I start my special oatmeal recipe (recipe below). This takes about 8-10 minutes. I then eat in about 5 minutes (bad habit of eating this fast but I guess I’m human too), then I wash the dishes, brush my teeth, get dressed, give my wife a kiss and I’m out the door with my coffee to go.
I would like to encourage you to create similar routines because routines become habits and a way of life!
I have added my special oatmeal recipe below. This is a great healthy breakfast to start the day. If you don’t care for oatmeal do a Google search on healthy breakfast recipes and find something that works for you. It’s also important to know that you don’t have to do the same breakfast every morning… this is what works for me and I love it, but it may not work for you. Be creative and mix it up! Get yourself in the habit of eating a healthy breakfast every morning!
Chris Special Oatmeal Recipe
½ cup old fashion oatmeal
6-8 raw almonds
2 tablespoons roasted or non roasted flax seeds
1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
½-1 cup frozen berries (any assortment) fresh works too
1 cup water
Add all the ingredients but the frozen berries and cook for 3-5 minutes on med high heat. When it starts to boil stirring every 15 to 30 seconds. Oatmeal is complete after water is soaks in the oats and is creamy looking. Then add the berries, I add frozen berries and let them sit in the oatmeal for 1 minute to thaw and cool the oatmeal so I can eat it right away. Fresh berries do taste better. If you want your oatmeal hot then cook the frozen berries a minute or so. This recipe will make about 1 ½ cups cooked w/ ingredients. Enjoy!
