Can You Handle Life’s Challenges?
In life, things rarely go as planned and I feel there’s value in that! I think there a couple things happening here. One is that life is making sure your plan is something you really want, and second, it’s helping you learn lessons that will be valuable in the future!
Last week I had my own life challenge happen to me. I started this year out with some business and financial goals and everything was going great. I’ve worked hard and put much time and effort into what I was trying to accomplish. Last week I had something inexpertly happen that completely knocked me off course form my goal. It sucks and definitely knocked the wind out of me, but I’ve been challenged many times in life and I know this is part of PROCESS to reaching my goal. I’m not going to hit my financial goal in the time frame I hoped, but I’m not going to stop till I do. When I get knocked down, in my mind I have not choice but to get back up and keep working. If not it’s not something I really want.

Thinking Long Term is the First Step to Reaching Your Goal
My personal goal is to help clients create long-term results! One of the biggest challenges I face as a personal trainer is teaching my clients to think long term and not expect immediate results. This doesn’t mean that they won’t see result in the short term, but helps them to create the mindset for their long-term success.
In our society we are bombarded with marketing and advertising about getting results quickly and with little work. Think about all the advertising you see on TV or hear on the radio about losing weight, getting in shape, or making lots of money. What are they selling? “Quick Results”. I personally think these are unethical practices and misleading the public to think that results come easy and with little work and have influenced society as a whole to focus on immediate gratification. I have trained 100’s of multimillionaire entrepreneurs and I am yet to meet one who got rich quickly. They have all worked extremely hard over long periods of time to achieve their success. This applies to losing weight and getting in shape as well!

Let’s Get The Ball Rolling!
I was just talking to a friend yesterday and he told me he’s at his heaviest weight in his life. He went on to tell me what that he wanted to lose weight and get back in shape (which I heard a couple times in the last year) and then told me the things he needs to do to accomplish this. The problem is that he is not doing the things he told me he needed to do. This is a very common story I hear when I talk with people about creating a healthy lifestyle. Why is this?

Are You Accepting Where You Are At?
Here’s my second Video. I talk here about accepting where you are at and it’s importance to creating changes in your life. Many times in my career I’ve seen people who want to make changes in their lives, but are not honest with themselves with their current situation.
Accepting where you are at gives you a starting point. For example: If you have 50 pounds to lose, are out of shape and your health is not good… this is your reality. It can’t be denied… it is truth! I’m not trying to be insensitive here. I know how challenging it is of accepting this reality, and the courage it takes to do so, but it’s very important because it gives you the starting point of where your at, and allows you to set a goal to where you want to be.

Give your body the opportunity!
Your body is amazing! What it is capable of and what it can do is absolutely incredible! When you are exercising… slow down and allow your body to figure out how to effectively do the exercise.
When you do an exercise for the first time, start slow and allow your body to feel the muscle (s) being worked through the entire movement. Focus your mind on nothing but feeling the muscle. When you do this, you are giving the body the opportunity to contract the muscle(s) being worked and figure out how to correctly do the exercise. This is also how you start to connect the mind and body and how you target the muscles that are suppose to be worked.

Do You Want Your Kids To Be Obese?
I know this is an extreme title, but what I’m going to talk about here is important. In the United States obesity has become an epidemic. Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index study in 2009 found 63.1% of adults are obese or over weight. This means that at least 6 out of 10 adults are overweight! There are about 32% of children who are overweight in our country, that’s 3 out of 10 kids! If things continue the way they are, this means that 3 more out of these 10 kids will become over weight or obese at some point in their life, and these numbers are on the rise. These numbers are scary and can be changed if we start to teach and educate our kids on eating healthy and being active at an early age.

Patience = Success
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given to you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions” Rainer … Maria Rilke
Patience is essential in working toward any goal in life. We live in a society that expects to see results right away, and when we don’t we give up and never achieve our goal. We are constantly bombarded with TV ads about achieving results quickly and with little effort, and this is the main reason why many fail. There is a process and it requires patience, hard work, and allowing the necessary time to pass to be successful. Let me tell you about my process of being successful incorporating yoga into my life.

Understanding Habits
When you are working on creating a change in your life, you are working on changing old habits and creating new ones. It’s very easy to sit and think about the changes you want in your life, but challenging to achieve and maintain them. This is because you have developed habits that need to be changed in order to be successful.
I have trained many clients in my life, and almost every client that I train knows what they have to do to reach their goal, but is unable to do so. Why is this?

Are You on the Computer? You Better Read This!
We live in a society where stress has become the norm and technology is making life easier and easier so we are able to do everything from the comfort of our homes. Examples, as the remote control, ordering groceries online, microwavable meals, etc… Although amazing, technological advances and how it makes life more convenient, is at the cost of our health. Added stress in our daily lives and lack of activity are causes leading to diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, etc… (add an unhealthy diet to this and it only compounds the problem…ouch)

How long will it take to lose 30 pounds?
A friend Emily and I were discussing exercise and weight loss in one of my past blog entries and she asked:
I want to lose 30 pounds, if I work out and eat decent, How soon till I get there?
There are many different variables that can determine how long it’s going to take to lose 30 pounds. Ideally, if you are eating perfect, doing 5-6 days of cardio, and 2-3 days of resistance training a week, you could possibly lose the weight 10-15 weeks, but realistically you are going to be looking at 4 to 6 months. Healthy weight loss is going to be 1-3 pounds a week.

An Inspiring Video by Aimee Mullins On Life Adversities And The Power We All Have To Change Our Lives.
Educate- (educe) to bring forth what is within, to bring out potential
We are capable of so much as human beings and the only thing holding us back is, ourselves. Aimee Mullins shares with us her inspiring story and shows us what we are capable of as human beings and the importance of the way we think, and how it determines our lives.
When my clients come to me for Personal Training in Santa Monica, I know they have what it takes to achieve their goals before I even meet them. Everyone has what it takes. My personal goal is to motivate and teach them so they have the confidence and knowledge to be successful. You have it too, and if you find yourself thinking otherwise, stop and ask yourself why you are thinking that way, and think about what you can do to change that perspective.

Understand the importance of Goals
Setting goals is an important part to being successful with an exercise program. Your goals allows you to set a point of reference to where you want to be, and then to create a plan of action to get there. This point of reference also allows you to determine if your daily choices are positive or negative in reaching your goal.
The goal is very important because when you are working to create a healthy lifestyle there will not be a straight path from where you are now to where you want to be. Life is going to happen and there will be challenges that will slow and sometimes stop your progress. Knowing that these challenges are going to happen allows you to create the right mindset as you work toward your goal.
We have been programmed in our society to expect and see immediate results, and not work hard to achieve them. This is especially true in the health and fitness industry. We are constantly bombarded with advertisements that mislead us to believe that we can achieve results without working hard and putting in the effort… example: take this pill and you can lose weight and eat whatever you want, get a full body workout in 10 minutes, follow this start of the art diet… it’s easy, no hard work required, it’s simple. Blah Blah Blah!!! These advertisements drive me CRAZY. There are no quick fixes. You have to do the work and put in the effort.

Starting an Exercise Program
When you start an exercise program it’s important to create a foundation for your future success. It’s very easy to sit and think that you are going to start working out and get in great shape, but when you get down to it, there are going to be many challenges you have to face once you get into the process. Whenever you create a change in your life (sedentary to active) there is going to be challenges to work through. Some of the challenges will be easy and others are going to test you to your core, and setting a solid foundation is going to help you to work through these challenges and achieve the results you desire.
There are three things I am going to talk about to set a solid foundation- set a goal, develop the right mindset, and plan.

Creating a Healthy Lifestyle
Creating a healthy lifestyle is about consistently incorporating exercise and eating healthy into your daily life. I believe that this can be one of the best ways to start improving your life. Being healthy and feeling good can be a major factor in helping you get the most out of life.
Our health is something that most of us take for granted until it is taken away from us. For example: an injury, illness, pain, disease, or some other catastrophe that affects our health etc… When this happens, we realize how good it was to be in good health. The only problem is that it is in the past.
