A Key Ingredient to Changing Your Life!
Nutrition is the most important factor in living a healthy life! One of the things that I find amazing is the lack of knowledge about the importance of nutrition and food has in our lives. We have all heard the saying we are what we eat. This could not be truer.
The importance of nutrition in our society is relatively new. Take a moment and think about how you feel about the food you eat. Is your decision based on what taste good, or how it will make you feel and affect you in the future? If you are like most, you are thinking about satisfying your cravings and eating food that taste good, as opposed to what food choices are better for you and will make your life better! This is short term thinking (immediate gratification) as opposed to long-term thinking. I had hundreds of conversations with people about health and fitness and the majority of people are unaware of the importance of nutrition.

Diet is the Most Important Part of Losing Weight
Here a video I created that focuses on the importance of diet for losing weight. I am always having conversations with people about losing weight, and I would say that the majority of the people believe that exercise is the best way to lose weight. This is wrong! Exercise does play an important role, but diet is the most important part of losing weight!
Most of the infomercials products that you see on late night TV about getting this hard toned body, all mention (in fine print of course) to follow the diet to get results. That is because you will not get results without the diet! You can’t spot reduce either! This means you can’t do hundreds and hundreds of crunches and lose weight! You have to follow a diet! I’ll take it a step further, follow a healthy diet and you will get better results! (Balanced, Whole Fresh Food…I’ll get to this in my next blog entry)

Failure is Great!!!!
What comes to mind when you hear the word failure? You most likely think of something negative like not reaching a goal, failing a test, or maybe even you’re a loser, etc…. We are taught in our society that failure is negative and it’s not acceptable. I am here to tell you it is acceptable and it’s a positive thing. It’s your choice in how you view it.
Whenever we fail, we are trying to accomplish something. It can be from taking a test, losing weight, running a marathon, or even losing a relationship. It’s normal to get upset when we don’t get the result we wanted. The problem is when we ruminate on what we’ve lost or didn’t accomplish. When we do this, we are thinking of something in the past and wishing it was different. It’s in the past and therefore cannot be changed. (Unless I create a time -LOL- Just Kidding) This is when failure is negative!

Patience = Success
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given to you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions” Rainer … Maria Rilke
Patience is essential in working toward any goal in life. We live in a society that expects to see results right away, and when we don’t we give up and never achieve our goal. We are constantly bombarded with TV ads about achieving results quickly and with little effort, and this is the main reason why many fail. There is a process and it requires patience, hard work, and allowing the necessary time to pass to be successful. Let me tell you about my process of being successful incorporating yoga into my life.

Understanding Habits
When you are working on creating a change in your life, you are working on changing old habits and creating new ones. It’s very easy to sit and think about the changes you want in your life, but challenging to achieve and maintain them. This is because you have developed habits that need to be changed in order to be successful.
I have trained many clients in my life, and almost every client that I train knows what they have to do to reach their goal, but is unable to do so. Why is this?

Are You on the Computer? You Better Read This!
We live in a society where stress has become the norm and technology is making life easier and easier so we are able to do everything from the comfort of our homes. Examples, as the remote control, ordering groceries online, microwavable meals, etc… Although amazing, technological advances and how it makes life more convenient, is at the cost of our health. Added stress in our daily lives and lack of activity are causes leading to diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, etc… (add an unhealthy diet to this and it only compounds the problem…ouch)

How long will it take to lose 30 pounds?
A friend Emily and I were discussing exercise and weight loss in one of my past blog entries and she asked:
I want to lose 30 pounds, if I work out and eat decent, How soon till I get there?
There are many different variables that can determine how long it’s going to take to lose 30 pounds. Ideally, if you are eating perfect, doing 5-6 days of cardio, and 2-3 days of resistance training a week, you could possibly lose the weight 10-15 weeks, but realistically you are going to be looking at 4 to 6 months. Healthy weight loss is going to be 1-3 pounds a week.

An Inspiring Video by Aimee Mullins On Life Adversities And The Power We All Have To Change Our Lives.
Educate- (educe) to bring forth what is within, to bring out potential
We are capable of so much as human beings and the only thing holding us back is, ourselves. Aimee Mullins shares with us her inspiring story and shows us what we are capable of as human beings and the importance of the way we think, and how it determines our lives.
When my clients come to me for Personal Training in Santa Monica, I know they have what it takes to achieve their goals before I even meet them. Everyone has what it takes. My personal goal is to motivate and teach them so they have the confidence and knowledge to be successful. You have it too, and if you find yourself thinking otherwise, stop and ask yourself why you are thinking that way, and think about what you can do to change that perspective.

Understand the importance of Goals
Setting goals is an important part to being successful with an exercise program. Your goals allows you to set a point of reference to where you want to be, and then to create a plan of action to get there. This point of reference also allows you to determine if your daily choices are positive or negative in reaching your goal.
The goal is very important because when you are working to create a healthy lifestyle there will not be a straight path from where you are now to where you want to be. Life is going to happen and there will be challenges that will slow and sometimes stop your progress. Knowing that these challenges are going to happen allows you to create the right mindset as you work toward your goal.
We have been programmed in our society to expect and see immediate results, and not work hard to achieve them. This is especially true in the health and fitness industry. We are constantly bombarded with advertisements that mislead us to believe that we can achieve results without working hard and putting in the effort… example: take this pill and you can lose weight and eat whatever you want, get a full body workout in 10 minutes, follow this start of the art diet… it’s easy, no hard work required, it’s simple. Blah Blah Blah!!! These advertisements drive me CRAZY. There are no quick fixes. You have to do the work and put in the effort.

Starting an Exercise Program
When you start an exercise program it’s important to create a foundation for your future success. It’s very easy to sit and think that you are going to start working out and get in great shape, but when you get down to it, there are going to be many challenges you have to face once you get into the process. Whenever you create a change in your life (sedentary to active) there is going to be challenges to work through. Some of the challenges will be easy and others are going to test you to your core, and setting a solid foundation is going to help you to work through these challenges and achieve the results you desire.
There are three things I am going to talk about to set a solid foundation- set a goal, develop the right mindset, and plan.

Creating a Healthy Lifestyle
Creating a healthy lifestyle is about consistently incorporating exercise and eating healthy into your daily life. I believe that this can be one of the best ways to start improving your life. Being healthy and feeling good can be a major factor in helping you get the most out of life.
Our health is something that most of us take for granted until it is taken away from us. For example: an injury, illness, pain, disease, or some other catastrophe that affects our health etc… When this happens, we realize how good it was to be in good health. The only problem is that it is in the past.

Chris is an incredible trainer. His passion, knowledge, and commitment to my success have been instrumental to helping me to reach my goals. He is well educated in strength training, cardio, diet, stretching, weight loss, and many other areas of physical fitness. His ability to help keep me motivated and focused on reaching my goals and teaching me to incorporate physical activity into my daily life, has really had a positive impact on me in many ways. I could not recommend him any higher.

My brother is the one who first introduced me to Chris over three years ago. My brother experienced a high degree of success with Chris’ diet plan and he believed I could benefit as well. Little did I know at the time that the introduction would change my life so dramatically!
I desperately needed to lose 150 pounds, which is not a small number by any stretch of the imagination. I was severely overweight and had been for most of my life. It got so bad that in the fall of 2006, I could hardly walk because I had terrific back pain (sciatica) and arthritis in my left knee.

Chris is an inspirational trainer. I am a nutritionalist living in London and Ireland so have come across many great fitness experts but Chris’s skill of getting inside your head and motivating you to work out in the best possible way for your body is a rare gift. I only get to spend a few weeks a year in Santa Monica but when I do, my fitness and physique improve radically thanks to Chris’s firm but gentle coaching and his extraordinary insight into the body’s physiology and how to make it work better than you could ever imagine.
I feel very fortunate to have Chris in my life even if it is only for a few weeks in the year. It makes a big difference to my preventative healthcare as I know his work is ensuring my muscles, joints and bones will work better than other peoples until Im a very old lady.

Physical activity has been an integral part of my life since I was a teenager. Over the years, I am now 65, I have trained in organized and personal activities, which I have done for enjoyment, general physical and mental fitness as well as in competition.
There have been numerous coaches, trainers and “gurus” throughout they years. Most recently, since I reside part of the year in Chicago, I train twice a week at the Gold Coast Multiplex with an extremely qualified personal trainer and have trained in boxing and mixed martial arts with a current UFC professional.

Chris changed my life! This is my story. I had no muscle and could barely run to first base not to mention the laundry list of health problems I had gone through. I was constantly getting sick ranging from the flu to cellulites. I also had constant migraine headaches on a daily basis and had no energy whatsoever. My overall health was very poor and I needed a change.
